Inside the CPU
This is the inside of a CPU. It may look like a jumbled mess, but each part is connected together to help a computer operate smoothly. Inside this CPU we can see a motherboard, CD ROM drive, floppy disc drive, hard drive, power box, and cables.
Motherboard
Pictured above are two hard drives. The picture on the right shows what the hard drive looks like when it is put together. The picture on the left shows the inside of the hard drive. This round silver object is the disk. This is where applications and files are stored on the computer. The harddrive operates like long term memory. It is where information gets stored permanently.
CD ROM drive
Pictured above on the right is a CD ROM. The picture on the left shows an installed CD ROM with a CD. The letters CD stand for Compact Disk.
USB Port
Pictured above on the left is a USB port. Normally, CPUs have multiple USB ports. On the left is a jump drive (aka flash drive). Jump drives are small, handy devices for storing files.
